Overview
Following the first book, which covered the Atlantic Coast from Belgium to Southern France, this second volume continues the journey along the European Coast. It moves further south, exploring the Atlantic coast of the Iberian Peninsula. The route begins in San Sebastian, just beyond the border of France and Spain, and extends to the rocky promontory of Gibraltar—5,200 km of coastline later.
A collection of thrilling, high-definition photography
This 400-page hardcover, published by Lannoo, showcases the coastal beauty of the Atlantic shores of Spain and Portugal. Featuring over 500 landscape images, the book captures the essence and spirit of the journey along these diverse coastlines. The pages reveal dazzling cliffs, hidden beaches, and charming coves through stunning, carefully curated photography.
A visual travel guide with the best tips & tricks for every traveller
In addition to its visual appeal, this book serves as a practical travel guide, offering curated insights and recommendations along the Atlantic coast. Carefully selected highlights—ranging from well-known landmarks to hidden gems—are listed and described in detail. The content is organized by ten regions, beginning in the mountainous and lush Basque Country and concluding in the sun-drenched landscapes of Andalusia. Along the way, the guide explores the rugged coastline of Galicia as well as major cities like Porto and Lisbon.
A unique book, ‘written’ by ultra runners
More than just a collection of stunning photography, thoughtful design, and travel insights, this book stands as a tribute to the endurance and spirit of humankind. Every stretch of the coast featured has been covered on foot by a community of ultra runners, each completing segments of 100 km per day. The result is the longest relay ever organized, composed of 100 km stages along the Atlantic coastline. Their remarkable stories are also featured throughout the book.
A collective masterpiece of hundreds
Photography—both aerial and ground-level—has been captured and patiently edited by Lars Crommelinck and Gert-Jan D’haene. The design is carefully crafted and meticulously balanced by Mark Brown and Camille Liebaert. Art direction is led by Charles Van Haverbeke. The website is developed by Pieter Delbeke. Copy and content are brought together by Camille Liebaert, Charles Van Haverbeke, Max Monteyne, and the 150 runners who connected the first to the last kilometer—each of their names listed within the book.
A second chapter in an adventure of a lifetime
The goal: to run the entire coastline of Europe. The journey began in Belgium, and reaching Gibraltar marks a milestone of 10,000 km covered on foot. With a total coastline of approximately 100,000 km, a new book will be published every 5,000 km. Support for this campaign contributes to the creation of unforgettable moments and extraordinary works of art.
