Overview

SUBMERGE is the first printed issue of Strange Seas, an independent surf and ocean magazine exploring the feeling of being submerged in the ocean and in surf culture. Across 160 pages, the issue brings together stories, photography, poems, interviews and art from contributors around the world. It moves between the personal and the political, the scientific and the imaginative, looking at the sea through different perspectives.

From the Basque Country to Lofoten and Brazil, SUBMERGE is a collection of different ways of seeing and experiencing the ocean. It’s about the people who live with it, study it, work with it and find freedom in it while also asking how the relationship with the sea is changing.

Printed in a beach-sized A5 format, the magazine was made to live outside the coffee table, too. To come along to the beach, on a train, in a van, or wherever the ocean takes you.

The magazine is founded and edited by Zoé Levit, an action sports and ocean journalist with a background in marine sciences. Her work moves between surf, action sports science, culture and the people shaped by the sea and beyond. Strange Seas is her way of bringing these worlds together.
