The new IDEA book is Katie Grand: Tears & Tearsheets. Every page is a tearsheet from a magazine. Re-photographed and repackaged, in chronological order, into one tightly bound, punch-packing book. Visually, literally bursting with energy.
Bella Hadid on the cover, shot by Harley Weir and styled by… well, that’s the point, of course, the whole book (288 pages of fashion editorials) is styled by Katie Grand. There are no blank pages. There was no space for empty space! As a result some pages from different shoots combine accidentally on- purpose as new refreshing layouts.
Katie was there at the start of Dazed & Confused with Rankin and Jefferson, went head first into The Face, launched POP magazine, launched LOVE magazine, launched Perfect magazine. If IDEA were ever going to make a tearsheet fashion book (we have) it would have to be with Katie. The hardest part was editing it down. There is just so much fashion!
There are quotes from almost all of the photographers, many of the models, designers, hair and make-up artists. They run on the reverse side of the folded card covers. The following list provides a great guide as to who is in the book; Rasharn Agyemang, Mert Alas, Luella Bartley, Victoria Beckham, Anna Bitton, Tim Blanks, Bryanboy, Naomi Campbell, Gwendoline Christie, Abbey Clancy, Ben Cobb, Sir Nicolas Coleridge, Liz Collins, Giles Deacon, Karen Elson, Linda Evangelista, Kaia Gerber, Jefferson Hack, Bella Hadid, Gigi Hadid, Jeremy O. Harris, Marc Jacobs, Kim Jones, Miranda Joyce, Patsy Kensit, Steven Klein, Zhong Lin, Courtney Love, Camilla Lowther, Alton Mason, Stella McCartney.
The energy that drives Tears & Tearsheets is the energy that drives Katie. From the first page to the last it is relentless. And it just keeps getting better. Then you close the book and see that cover. And it starts up, all over again.
