Pepe Brix travelled to the seas of Newfoundland aboard the trawler 'Joana Princesa'. For three and a half months he shared the life on board with the crew of one of the last Portuguese codfish trawlers and documented the physical and psychological hardship of daily life in an enclosed space in climatic extreme conditions. Besides documenting the warm comradeship between a hardened group of seamen, his pictures uncover the historic bond between the old factory ship and the Portuguese saga of codfish fishing.
This photographic report, partially in February 2015's edition of National Geographic Portugal magazine, is now available as a book, with dozens of new and never before printed pictures.
