End - Journeys To The End Of The World (Carlos Casas)
To bear witness to those who live in places that seem uninhabitable, in 2001 Spanish filmmaker and visual artist Carlos Casas embarked on a trilogy of work dedicated to the periphery of civilisation in the most extreme environments on the planet: Patagonia, the disappeared Aral Sea, and Siberia. Fieldwork, films and stunning photographs are presented together here for the first time. A cross between documentary, cinema and visual and sound arts, his work entails the “powerful use of landscapes envisioned not as settings but as dramatic protagonists.” Includes texts by Casas, Carlo Fossati and Tony Herrington, plus an interview by Jean-Pierre Rehm.
